I spent much of last weekend watching The Defiant Ones, Netflix’s mini series on Jimmy Iovine and Dr Dre.

If you’re unfamiliar, Jimmy was involved with Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, Bono, and many other legendary artists as a sound engineer, and eventually as a producer and executive.

Dre was part of the rap group N.W.A., and has produced multi-platinum albums for Eminem, 2Pac, Snoop Dogg, and 50 Cent, to name a few.

Nobody in their right mind would question their wisdom or success.

But this wasn’t always the case.

At one point in their journey, they experienced a tremendous amount of pushback, resistance, and criticism from their business partners, the media, and even the people closest to them.

Jimmy said the only way they were able to overcome this is by “putting their blinders on,” like a race horse who’s trying to avoid stumbling and falling before reaching the finish line.

There’s a lesson in here for you:

When you don’t keep your blinders on during your weight loss journey, you can’t help but notice (unsustainable) transformations on social media, outrageous claims from (unethical) coaches, and programs that promise you the world for very little effort.

All of which leave you astray, of course.

The only proven path to success is not straying the course, and following through with the plan you originally committed to—as Jimmy and Dre did.

Nothing anybody else is doing or saying matters.

It’s only a distraction that’ll leave you worse off before the summer gets under way.
